The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has refuted claims that COVID-19 has been declared over, pointing out that 31 new cases were recorded last week.

Dr. Kwame Amponsah-Achiano, Programmes Manager at the Expanded Programme on Immunization, stressed the continued importance of public vigilance and vaccination.

Dr. Amponsah-Achiano clarified, “COVID is still present, so we should not assume that it’s a thing of the past. Despite reports suggesting the pandemic has ended, it has never been officially declared over.”

He emphasized the transition from emergency response to ongoing COVID control measures, such as vaccination campaigns and the continued practice of wearing masks in enclosed spaces.

Furthermore, he stated, “We continue to advocate for the wearing of masks and the promotion of hand hygiene, including regular handwashing with soap and running water for everyone until COVID is officially declared over.”
