Great anticipation surrounds the upcoming commissioning of the Kumasi Airport, soon to be renamed the Nana Agyemang Prempeh I International Airport on May 10, 2024.

President Akufo-Addo, alongside esteemed guests such as the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Minister of Transport Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, and Managing Director of the Ghana Airport Company Limited, Yvonne Nana Afiriyie Opare, will be in attendance for the official inauguration.

Following the ceremony, full operations at the Kumasi Airport are slated to commence by June, under the management of the Ghana Airport Company Limited. Presently, the airport is undergoing essential equipment testing to facilitate both domestic and international flights.

With a capacity to serve over 800,000 passengers annually, primarily from the northern and middle belt regions, the airport is positioned to cater to the escalating demand for air travel in the area.

Plans for the future expansion of the runway and the demolition of outdated facilities have been outlined by contractors, paving the way for enhanced operational efficiency.

Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, during a recent site visit with Ghana Airport Company Limited management and Board Members, expressed contentment with the progress achieved thus far.
