President Nana Akufo-Addo has highlighted the need for a long-term strategy to address Ghana’s football challenges, expressing concern over the recent disappointing performance of the Black Stars at the Africa Cup of Nations.

In his 2024 State of the Nation address delivered on February 27, 2024, he acknowledged the nation’s sadness over the team’s early exit in Cote d’Ivoire.

President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence that the players and technical handlers would have wanted to make the nation proud, citing Captain Andre Dede Ayew’s heartfelt apologies on behalf of the team.

In response to the downturn in Ghana’s football performance, the President announced his intention to implement a ‘Presidential Policy on Football’ to address the current challenges in the sport.
