The Institute of Energy Security (IES) has made a bold call for the dismissal of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the Minister for Energy, citing the ongoing power outages, commonly referred to as dumsor, as sufficient grounds for his removal from office.

Nana Amoasi VII, the Executive Director of IES, expressed his dissatisfaction with the perceived lack of action from the minister during an interview on Eyewitness News on Monday.

Amoasi highlighted what he sees as the minister’s detachment from the realities of the energy situation, questioning the relevance of his presence in such a crucial role.

“At this point, where we find ourselves, there is no power supply in certain areas. So, what purpose does the minister serve in that space? He should be relieved, perhaps to focus on other endeavors he may be pursuing. He should be relieved of his post. The situation has become unbearable. Is it too much to ask?”

“Frankly, I am a prepaid consumer. I have already paid for the electricity that you are supposed to supply me. You opted to install a meter in my house for a fee, which also constitutes a form of contract, and you chose to take my money in advance.”

“If I am not going to receive the electricity, then at the very least, out of respect, inform me when I can expect to have it. But don’t look me in the eye and tell me to create my own schedule.”

IES stressed that the current state of the energy sector demands urgent action, prompting their call for the minister’s dismissal.
